Febuary Half Term Activities for Book Lovers around Leeds, Harrogate and York

Half term is here! A whole week off school and a whole week of lovely bookish activities to fill your days with. This list is by no means exhaustive but here are some of the things going on around Leeds, Harrogate and York this half term that have caught our eye.

Monday 12th February

LEEDS – The Little Bookshop Leeds are hosting a free craft drop in session inspired by the wonderful Rosie Revere Engineer.
10-11am

YORK – Hoglets Theatre are hosting their shadow puppet theatre and craft session at Clifton Explore Library today at 10.30am and again at Acomb Explore Library at 2pm. Suitable for children aged 3-7 years. Booking is essential and tickets are £2 per child. Book at any York Library or by calling 01904 552651

KNARESBOROUGH & RIPON – Strange-Twig Theatre Company are hosting a Storytelling Extravaganza for ages 5-11 at Ripon Library at 10.30am followed by a second performance at Knaresborough library at 2.30pm. Tickets are £1

 

LEEDS – Make mechanical models at Waterstones Leeds to celebrate the release of TIN by Padraig Kenny.
10am-2pm.

YORK – Storytime and activities in the children’s section of Waterstones York.
11am

YORK – Planning a story to enter the Radio 2 500 Words short story competition? Then come along to Easingwold Library, York and find inspiration at their creative writing workshops. A free event aimed at 7-12 year olds, places are limited and can be booked by calling 01609 534584 or on the library website here.
10-11am

LEEDS – TuttiFrutti at The Little Bookshop Leeds is a creative session for all that has been specially designed to be accessible for those with special needs. A free event but booking is essential and can be done here. Aimed at ages 5-10.
3-4pm

Tuesday 13th February

LEEDS – It’s pancake day and Waterstones Leeds are hosting a pancake tossing competition as well as reading Mr Wolf’s Pancakes.
10am-2pm

LEEDS – More half term crafting to enjoy at The Little Bookshop Leeds with Miffy being the inspiration today.
10-11am

YORK – Storytime and activities in the children’s section of Waterstones York.
11am

YORK – Meet children’s author Sue Ellis at Waterstones York. Sue will be signing copies of her books in the children’s section.
1pm

RIPON – Storytime at The Little Ripon Bookshop, this week the theme is Cuddling Up. A free event which even includes a drink and a snack for your little ones after the stories.

YORK – Easingwold Library are hosting a Wordgames club so if you’re aged between 7 and 12 and words are your superpower then come and do battle. Places are £2 each.

LEEDS – A Valentines themed free craft drop in is happening today at The Little Bookshop Leeds.

YORK – Storytime and activities in the children’s section of Waterstones York.
11am

YORK – Author Jonnie Wild will be signing books and reading from his picture book The Carnivorous Crocodile in the children’s section of Waterstones York.

LEEDS – Professor Astro Cat is the inspiration for the crafts at The Little Bookshop Leeds today. Free and for all ages. If you haven’t heard of these brilliantly engaging non fiction books before you can check out our reviews here and here.

LEEDS – Join poet Joshua Seigal, author of the brilliant I Don’t Like Poetry, for Fun With Words, a creative poetry workshop aimed at 7-11 year olds. This event is being run as part of Milim, the Leeds Jewish Literary Festival and is free to attend but places must be booked here or by phoning 0113 2689102.

HARROGATE – Harrogate Theatre have two showings of a new musical adaptation of The Jungle Book today at 2.30pm and again at 5.30pm. A perfect family treat for half term. Aimed at ages 6 and above, prices and ticket details can be found here.

 

Friday 16th of February

LEEDS – Waterstones Leeds have a storytime and activites based around Read the Book, Lemmings! A funny new picture book from Ame Dyckman.
10am-2pm
