Miss Twinkletoes at the toy shop is hosting a talent competition and the prize is the Mellow Yellow Unicorn with the glow in the dark horn. Absolutely everyone wants to win it, and Chloe the crocodile just has to have it.

Winning it couldn’t be simpler, all Chloe would need to do is bake an amazing rainbow cake, make a magic castle, design a unicorn fairy costume and show off her best talent in the show. Chloe was good at all these things but the only problem was Veronica. Veronica was also good at all these things and she also really wanted to win the unicorn.

Chloe, Veronica and the other animals set to work trying to outdo each other until the day of the talent competition arrived. But who would come away with that Mellow Yellow Unicorn?

The desire to have the unicorn is very strong amongst these young animals and the illustrations of all their efforts to try and win it are brilliant. On a subtle level, there is a lesson to be taken here about the obsession with material things which ties up nicely at the end when Chloe and Veronica realise that their friendship is actually more valuable. We also really like that there are boys competing in the competition to win the unicorn too.

Funny and entertaining with colourful and modern illustrations, a great read for unicorn lovers everywhere.
