First concept books for little ones can have become real works of art recently and we’re increasingly impressed at the quality and attention to detail in them. The latest lift-the-flap books from Walker Studio by French-Swedish designer Élo (Elodie Jarret) are perfect of examples of this.
Surprising Birds and Big Dog, Little Dog focus on opposites and colours through an innovative and stylish picture books. The flaps not only reveal something but they change the original picture or extend it beyond the confines of the pages.
Our feathered friends in Surprising Birds are all decorated with contrasting black and white plumage before revealing a burst of hidden colour.
Whilst Big Dog, Little Dog shows different dogs on each page in bright, bold colours as they compare fat with thin, awake with asleep and even spots with no spots. We love the dogs expressions as they make subtle side glances to the other dogs on the page.
Beautifully simple and visually engaging, these books not only help to teach about first concepts but will also delight little ones as they observe changes through the clever design.
You can see more of Élo’s design work on her website here.
